The program starts with an orientation to the modern city of Athens during which guests will view the most important sites and buildings of the city. Among the most memorable is the Greek House of Parliament, a neoclassical structure overlooking the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where the traditional Changing of the Guard takes place. Also viewed on the tour is Syntagma Square, the magnificent Marble Stadium where the first modern Olympics took place, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, the Zappeion Gardens, the Academy, the University, the National Library and Iliou Melathron, the former home of the celebrated archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann and one of the most beautiful buildings in Athens.

Following the orientation tour guests will be dropped off at the base of the Acropolis, where a series of steps invite them to ascend to the top of this sacred rock. Upon reaching the top they will pass through the Propylaea, the stately entrance to the magnificent structures inside, and will be greeted by a spectacular view of the city and the entire basin of Attica. Once inside, they will immediately see the Parthenon, by far the best known and most awe-inspiring of the structures on the Acropolis. This massive Doric temple was dedicated to Athena, the divine patroness of Athens. Just north of the Parthenon is the Erechtheion, another well-recognized structure with its graceful porch of Caryatids.

Following the Acropolis visit guests will walk to the nearby Plaka area for shopping or strolling around before proceeding for dinner.

For anyone who enjoys experiencing the world behind the lens of a camera, the Plaka district of old Athens is one giant photo opportunity. Situated on the hillside at the foot of the Acropolis, the Plaka is home to the fascinating Monastiraki flea market, quaint houses and tavernas situated on narrow winding streets, and a plethora of antique and bric-a-brac shops selling handicrafts, fine collectibles and souvenir paraphernalia ranging from the sublime to the absurd. Afternoon Cape Sounion Tour

Leave Athens for a wonderful drive along the scenic coastal road which affords a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf, passing through some of Athens most beautiful suburbs (Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza) to Cape Sounion where you will visit the 5th Century B.C temple of Poseidon with one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the world (on a clear day you can see at least seven islands). The precipice is a sheer 197-foot drop to the sea.

Poros is a thickly wooded small island separated from the Peloponnese coast by a narrow strait. The scenery and climate are delightful and the island is a favourite quiet summer resort.

Hydra, this historic and picturesque island with its distinctive architecture and local colour is beloved by artists from around the world.
