As in the days of the Moghuls, astrologers set up their charts on the pavement; shoemakers squat and repair sandals; sidewalk photographers with old box cameras take pictures for a small fee; medicine booths conceal doctors attending to patients; and oversize teeth grin from the windows of dentists' offices.) Here you can also visit the Jama Masjid (an exquisite Islamic statement in red sandstone and marble, India's largest mosque was the last monument commissioned by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan) and the Red Fort (this 17th century fort has been a mute witness to innumerable conspiracies, scandals, battles.....).

Jaipur – this is the land of the Rajput warriors and the capital of Rajasthan (once called Rajputana "Abode of Kings" ). Rajputs were upper-caste Hindu warrior-prince. When they were not fighting among themselves for power, wealth, and women, the Rajputs built the hundreds of forts, palaces, gardens, and temples that make this region so enchanting. The region is home to numerous cultural festivals, crafts fairs, and religious gatherings throughout the year

After an early breakfast we head out to the city to Amer Fort (Surrounded by ramparts, this marvellous fortress is perched on a hill near Maota Lake. Raja Man Singh began building it in 1592 and it took 125 years to complete. For centuries the fortress was the capital of the Kachhawah Rajputs. Although the fort is in ruins, the interior palaces, gardens, and temples retain much of their pristine beauty. Both the art and the architecture combine Rajput and Moghul influences in felicitous ways). An elephant ride up to the fort makes the experience more interesting.
Return to the city to visit Albert Hall Museum (Worth a visit just for its architecture, this sandstone-and-marble building was built in the late 19th century in the Indo-Saracenic style).
